Welcome to the Millbeach Marine Club. The club was formed in 1967 by a bunch of like-minded enthusiasts in the grounds of the, then thriving, Millbeach pub in Heybridge.
The Millbeach Marine Club is located on the North shore of the River Blackwater, just over 2 miles downstream from the Maldon Hythe Quay, less than 1 mile from Heybridge Basin and approximately 2 miles from the Western point of Osea Island.
Are you looking to join a local sailing club?
If you are looking to get involved in sailing for the first time or looking to relocate, why not drop by for a chat? On a sunny day you’ll find many of our friendly members taking time out to enjoy a cuppa and a yarn on the veranda!
Over the past 50+ years, the MMC committee has worked tirelessly to manage the club on a non-profit basis, to improve the club facilities, including the purchase of the ½ acre plot of land that the club now operates from, provide a clubhouse and substantial launching ramp. Our fees are kept low because there are no paid members of staff and all members are encouraged to assist with the upkeep and improvements to the club, its grounds and facilities. This is achieved by the organising of work parties throughout the year, which also serves as a great opportunity for both existing and new members to get acquainted.
We currently have around 80 family members and rent an area or block of the river from Maldon Council for moorings, to which is divided up into approximately 60 plots. All are drying moorings, and dependant on the mooring location, craft could have water 2 ½ hours either side of high water and are reached from the club ramp. We cater for mainly day yachts, cruising yachts and a few open boats. We do not however, accept applications from owners of speed boats or Jet Skis.
The club has a reputation for being very friendly and informal, which is evident in the turnout of the members at the work parties. We even hold the odd social event!! These events are organised but obviously subject to the UK weather. The Club has quite a number of competent sailors who are more than willing to help the less experienced, especially when venturing out on the river for the first time.
We are working with the RSPB and Essex Wildlife Trust raising awareness of beach nesting birds in the Blackwater and Colne estuaries in order to protect them from disturbance over the summer.
As part of this we have produced some leaflets and posters that will help provide information for recreational visitors about what to look out for when out and about, and how to enjoy the coast responsibly.
